Come Wednesday night, the doors of FAO Schwarz — the oldest toy store in the U.S., frequented by celebrity moms such as Angelina Jolie, Victoria Beckham and Kim Kardashian — will close for good.
THR looks back at the Hollywood films that were shot at the iconic Fifth Avenue shop.
1. Big (1988)
Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia danced on top of the store’s large floor piano, hitting the keys to classics like “Heart & Soul” and “Chopsticks,” in the Penny Marshall-directed film about a 12-year-old boy who magically wishes to be “big” and winds up in the body of an adult man.
2. The Smurfs (2011)
In the 2011 animated film, the Smurfs end up in New York City and find themselves being chased by evil wizard Gargamel (played by Hank Azaria) around the different levels of the toy store (around the 3:39 mark in the video above).
3. Mighty Aphrodite (1995)
Woody Allen and Mira Sorvino, who play the lead roles in the romantic comedy, run into each other by chance at the New York toy store during the film’s final scene.

4. For Love or Money (1993)
The 1993 romance film featured a scene in which lead actor Michael J. Fox is seen carrying a giant stuffed giraffe out of the store’s front doors.
5. Baby Boom (1987)
Diane Keaton was seen going on a shopping spree at FAO Schwarz to buy new toys for her daughter in the Charles Shyer-directed film about a woman who inherits a baby from her distant relative.
6. Big Business (1988)
The 1988 film pictured the toy store in a scene in which Bette Midler‘s character has a run-in with her sister’s husband and son.
7. Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
Lead characters Bill and Alice Harford (played by Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman) work toward fixing their tumultuous marriage as they stroll through the store with their 7-year-old daughter in the film’s final scene.
